How much spending money should I bring to Cancun?

Nightclubs in Cancun MexicoHow much spending money should I bring to Cancun? Well… Complicated question, because this depends on a lot of things:
  • What type of hotel are are you staying at? All Inclusive or Standard?
If you have opted to stay at an All Inclusive Resort, all of your food and drinks are included between the hours of 9am - 11pm. This includes buffets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner or the optional [reservation required] dining at one of the restaurants on the resort property. All Inclusive Resorts usually include snack bars and sushi bars as well. Some resorts are even equipped with wet bars in each suite! Talk about luxury. So, if you have purchased this type of vacation package, rest easy because all of your dining choices and drinking (before 11pm) are completely covered!
Side note - in most cases, All Inclusive Resorts don’t allow serving staff to accept tips from guests. However, that being said, do your research because some do and some expect it! This will make a big difference in spending cash.
  • Where is the location of your hotel or resort?
Now, if your resort is walking distance from all the major attractions, great! You don’t have to pay even one peso for the bus or taxis each day. Taxis average about $200 MXP (pesos) per ride from all the major hotels, and public buses cost $10.5 MXP per person each time you board. Those small fares can add up, especially if you’re leaving your hotel every day for each meal. Keep that in mind.
  • Are you a souvenir shopper?
We all are, right? We all want to bring Mom home something from Mexico (not a tattoo of a heart with her name written across it, boys)! Well ok, so if we're going to go souvenir shopping we just have to know which flea market is priced the best. We know that doesn’t necessarily mean the closest, right? In Cancun, there is a flea market right at the entrance of the club zone called Coral Negro. Located in the perfect place, not much travel required. They have quite a few little shops inside and you can haggle your way down to a pretty good price. Just remember, DON'T BUY WITHOUT NEGOTIATING. There is another flea market that is famous in Cancun for incredible prices and wide variety. It is called Market 28. It’s huge and is definitely worth the bus trip into downtown Cancun. Just get on the R2 bus line and ask the bus driver to drop you off at Mercado Vientiocho (Market 28).
  • Have you already purchased a party package?
    • This is huge. If you have pre-purchased your party package (and made a good choice) you are completely set for all of your nightlife activities. If you did your research and purchased the right package, then you won’t have to pay for covers, drinks, tables, bottles, ANYTHING! Just tips for the hard working waiters of course. It's very important you don’t get suckered into the wrong party package. Some agencies say 'we have a free package, or a silver package, or a gold package'…. if you hear that, RUN! It’s not what you are looking for, and you will end up spending WAY too much and waste half your vacation getting a portion of what you paid for before you decide to drop another $300 on a better package deal. Then, you’re out the money you paid on the first!
Make sure to purchase a party package with a company that has good reviews and a trusted customer base. The best place to find the most TRUSTED and INEXPENSIVE party packages is right here: After Dark Events & Entertainment. You can find reviews from previous customers here: https://afterdark-entertainment.com/cancun-spring-break-reviews-after-dark.   So the 'not so simple’ answer is, you need to do your research. You can put together a package in which you will only have to bring souvenir and tip money to Cancun. Wouldn’t that be great? It’s possible! If you plan and do your homework, you will be just fine.
